Supporting our Communities: Medavie Commits $750K to the Atlantic Compassion Fund

Moncton, NB – Medavie, through its Foundation, is providing $750,000 to the Atlantic Compassion Fund to support the immediate and emerging needs of Atlantic Canadians in improving access to food and mental health services.

“United Ways are well connected to the communities they serve, allowing them to identify critical needs and fill any gaps, while providing a nimble, coordinated approach in meeting those needs,” said Bernard Lord, CEO of Medavie. “As a not-for-profit health solutions partner, making a meaningful difference in our communities is more important than ever and is at the heart of our Foundation and our mission to improve the wellbeing of Canadians. In partnership with these organizations, we are supporting our communities better, together.”

“Many people were already facing a crisis before the pandemic began, and challenges like food insecurity, isolation and housing instability have only become more difficult,” said Sara Napier, President & CEO of United Way Halifax. “Medavie’s contribution to the Atlantic Compassion Fund will allow United Ways to continue to meet the unique needs of their communities across Atlantic Canada, ensuring that vulnerable community members are not left behind.”

To date, the Atlantic Compassion Fund has provided more than $1 million of support to 264 organizations on the ground in local communities across the region, meeting immediate needs every single day. “Whether it’s delivering groceries to a family, helping a shelter meet physical distancing requirements, or taking phone calls from youth who are scared and isolated, gifts like this one from Medavie will make sure the help keeps coming,” added Ms. Napier.

This contribution is part of Medavie’s $5M COVID-19 Response Fund, which will help communities address their immediate needs. The Fund will also assist with much-need recovery efforts as organizations manage through this pandemic and find new and innovative way to provide essential services.

Through its Foundation, Medavie supports community-based programs aligned with adolescent mental health and post-traumatic stress, and initiatives that support active living and healthy eating.
