Providing care wherever Canadians are

Care is an action, not a place.

This is the foundation of modern health care ― and at the heart of our vision to be a trusted health solutions partner.

Our collective views are transitioning from a “doctor says, patient does” style of care toward a more holistic approach that engages the members as a full, active participant and enables them to take charge of their health ― on their terms.

We’re moving beyond diagnosing and treating patients in traditional “bricks-and-mortar” settings to virtual environments, a transition that has only accelerated during the pandemic. Patients can connect directly with a licensed health professional by video call, instant or text messaging and access a broad spectrum of services from coaching to manage a chronic disease to counselling for a mental health concern ― and more digital health solutions that are part of our Medavie offering.

We’re also shifting from “hallway medicine” to at-home and community-based settings, including mobile integrated care ― a growing and increasingly important part of our operations and for expanding access to care. Mobile integrated care enables us to put the needs of the patient front and centre, while easing the pressure on emergency departments and reducing hospital admissions.

"Our collective views are transitioning from a “doctor says, patient does” style of care toward a more holistic approach that engages the members as a full, active participant and enables them to take charge of their health ― on their terms."

Together ― mobile integrated care, virtual care and self-care ― are key elements of a model that can sustain our health care system for the long term; one that personalizes care to meet the whole needs of the patient; uses omnichannel methods to expedite access to expert care and to intervene early; delivers a seamless experience throughout their health care journey; and makes information transparent and easy to understand to support the patient’s decision making.

It’s a model of care we aspire to and advocate for in achieving our “quadruple aim” of better health outcomes, patient satisfaction, client experience and cost-effectiveness.

Based on our history and experience, Medavie is positioned to play a significant role in building and strengthening this model for the benefit of all stakeholders ― patients, clients, partners and taxpayers ― in the months and years ahead.

This confidence is fuelled by our organization’s agile response to the pandemic, by the resilience shown by our team, the new strategic relationships we forged and the progress we have made in our digital transformation. It is also fuelled by our expansion into areas like integrated mobile care, and the roles we played protecting the health and safety of Canadians while providing emergency relief to our communities since early 2020.

I invite you to read our Communities Coming Together impact report, which shares stories of how we invested in communities to keep them safe and strong through the pandemic and beyond.

As we are look toward a post-pandemic future, and prepare to create our “new life-work” normal, it’s clear we face major uncertainties. However, if we build on our strategies, applying the same flexibility and adaptability that got us through the pandemic, draw from the important lessons we learned, and use the insights and tools we gained, we will emerge from this crisis stronger, together.
