Medavie

Impact Strategy

Deeply intertwined with our Inclusion and Belonging strategy, our Impact Strategy outlines how Medavie manages and reports on our performance across three key areas:

Our impact on the planet

Evaluating factors like carbon emissions, energy use, and waste management.

Our impact on people

Looking at elements like employee wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.

How our business is run

Monitoring and enabling ethical leadership, transparency, compliance, and other key practices.

By articulating our goals and defining how we measure progress, the Impact Strategy helps ensure that our decisions, operations, and investments are ethical and sustainable while supporting our ability to meet the needs and expectations of our clients and communities.

Our Impact Strategy is built on three pillars, each supported by key focus areas.
PillarFocus areas
Breaking down barriers to health care and insurance, and increasing health equity
  • Community partnerships and engagement to address systemic issues
  • Technological and product innovation
  • Access to quality health care and inclusive insurance products
Leading a diverse workforce that supports employees’ authenticity, growth, and development
  • Workforce engagement and development
  • Workforce physical and psychological health and safety
Building accountability and governance for long-term success
  • Responsible investing
  • Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate impacts
  • ESG governance and communications

Each focus area is supported by a clear set of objectives that will inform the actions we’ll take and the ways we’ll measure our progress.

Understanding our footprint

As a diversified health organization that operates across Canada, we’re actively working to better understand our environmental footprint and the inherent connection between health and the environment.

Simply put, climate change is a public health issue. We can already see how climate change is affecting the health of Canadians — through increasing rates of mental health issues like anxiety, the exacerbation of respiratory and cardiac issues, neurological diseases from exposure to hazardous chemicals, injuries and illness related to extreme weather events, and in the prevalence of vector, water and food-borne illness, just to name a few.

We know that a healthy environment is essential for promoting our overall wellbeing and for ensuring a sustainable future. As a business, it’s crucial that we make decisions which consider our impact on the environment and that begins with getting a clearer picture of where we stand today, so we can chart a course for tomorrow.

As we continue to refine our Impact Strategy, we remain committed to improving health equity and playing our part in overcoming the local impacts of climate change on public health.
