Inclusion and Belonging

Creating a culture of caring

Our commitment

At Medavie, we recognize that everyone brings unique perspectives, backgrounds, goals, and aspirations that shape how they define a fulfilling career and a meaningful life. That’s why we’re committed to fostering a respectful culture where our teams, patients, customers, partners, and communities are valued for who they are and the contributions they make.

Our goals

  • Foster an inclusive culture that celebrates, respects, and reflects the diversity of our teams, patients, customers, partners and communities.

  • Be intentional and accountable in applying the principles of inclusion and embedding them into the framework of our organization at all levels.

  • Strengthen the connection to our inclusive culture in ways that deepen our relationships with our teams, patients, customers, partners and communities.

Our voices

We encourage and empower diverse voices knowing that varied perspectives fuel collaboration and innovation, which are central to our mission of improving the wellbeing of Canadians.

Inclusion and belonging in action

Leading the way

Our Inclusion and Belonging strategy is championed by our Director, Customer Engagement and Belonging and the responsibility for advancing inclusion rests with leaders across the organization. Guided by diverse perspectives from across Canada, we remain committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and included.

Inclusive choices

We ensure we use inclusive language and imagery in everything we say and do, from our correspondence with members and communications with clients to our marketing materials, social media posts and online content. We also offer members inclusive choices on our forms.

Inclusive benefits

As part of our ongoing efforts to support a diverse Canadian workforce, we continue to expand our benefits offering with inclusive options, including our Gender Affirmation Benefit, which supports gender-diverse plan members in their gender transition. We also offer comprehensive support for mental health and fertility, ensuring our benefits reflect the diverse needs of Canadians and their families.

Community giving

As a not-for-profit organization, we partner with health-focused, community-based, diverse and inclusive organizations to support initiatives that share our goals of fairness and equality and who work to remove barriers to care.

Leadership development

We connect intention with impact by driving inclusive behaviours at all levels of leadership across the organization, including training to help leaders understand and manage unconscious biases and inclusive leadership.

A shared responsibility

We invite our teams, patients, customers, partners and communities to join us on our journey toward greater diversity and inclusivity. To learn how we do this or to provide feedback, contact our Customer Engagement and Belonging at dei@medavie.ca
