The Medavie Foundation Scholarship

An applicant must be:

• A Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident
• Living with a mental health challenge of their own or that of a family member
• Is pursuing a health-related field of study at a recognized post-secondary educational institution in Canada (community college or university) with plans to pursue a career in their health-related field of studies.

The 2026 Medavie Scholarship is now closed. All who applied will be notified by early August.

To apply for the 2026 Medavie Scholarship, applicants must complete and submit the online application by 11:59 PM EST on May 31, 2026.

Up to 10 scholarships of $7,000 will be awarded this year. Each scholarship will be renewable for up to three additional years, subject to confirmation of continued eligibility.

Applicants must be pursuing an education focused on health and dedicated to improving the wellbeing of others. Examples include eligible university and community college programs that include chiropractic care, gerontology, kinesiology, medical school, nursing, nutrition, paramedicine, physiotherapy, psychology, public health, related research, etc. Chosen recipients will be asked to provide proof of full-time enrolment before funds are awarded.

No. However, financial need is taken into consideration during the final selection process, along with community involvement, letters of support, and career aspirations in a health-related field are the criteria that will be weighted the most in assessing each application.

The letters of support can come from an ally who has known the applicant for at least two years and who is not part of their family. Examples of who can provide the letter of support would be a teacher/professor, guidance counsellor or other school representative, employer/supervisor, a supervisor of a volunteer role, a coach, a social worker or counsellor, a health care provider etc.

Refences should not submit the letters directly to the Medavie Foundation. Applicants will collect the letters of support themselves and then attach to the online application. Applicants will not be able to complete the online application without attaching the required two letters of support.

The applicant will need to attach your letter to an online application system and the file must be in PDF or Word file formats. 

The letter of support should include how you know the applicant, the length of time you have known each other, and why you believe they should be awarded this scholarship in terms of their character, activities/experiences and/or career plans. The letter must also include the reference’s name, email, and phone number.

Applicants must submit the letters of support, along with other supporting documentation, to Medavie Foundation no later than 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on May 31, 2026. Please ensure you have provided the applicant with your letter of support in advance of this deadline.

Yes, the Medavie Foundation will accept reused letters of support as long as they are recent and speak to how you know the applicant, the length of time you have known each other, and speaks to your knowledge of the applicant’s character, experiences, activities and/or health-related career plans.

No, however, letters of support must include the reference’s name, email, and phone number as  the Medavie Foundation may follow-up to verify the information included in the letters.

 And you must also attach 2 letters of support to complete and submit the online application.
 

The only documents that can be attached to the online application are the two mandatory letters of support. All other information must be provided within the online application form.

Yes. Once you have completed registration and verified your email you will be asked to save and exit the online application.

Applications submitted by the deadline will be assessed by Medavie Foundation to identify the applicants with the most competitive and strongest fit with the scholarship’s focus. This includes youth pursuing health-related post-secondary studies at a recognized Canadian university or community college and with plans for a health-related career in their field of study after graduation. Additional consideration will be given to community involvement, financial need, and letters of support.
