Medavie Commits $180,000 to Support Wildfire Relief Efforts Across Canada

Medavie, through the Medavie Foundation, is donating $180,000 to support the immediate response and recovery efforts relating to the wildfires in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Alberta. This includes $155,000 to the Canadian Red Cross and $25,000 to the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association.

“With our headquarters and many of our operations in Atlantic Canada, and additional frontline teams out West, we recognize a number of our own employees, members, partners and communities have been impacted directly,” says Bernard Lord, Medavie CEO. “Our thoughts are with everyone across the country during this difficult time.”

Within Medavie’s family of companies, people have been asking how they can help—whether providing housing to sharing a meal to offering gift cards—as a true showing of what it means to be caring and community-minded. The organization will also be considering additional targeted opportunities to support relief efforts once the impact has been fully assessed.

“We encourage everyone to take care of themselves and one another and stay safe,” says Lord. “And we thank all first responders who are working tirelessly to manage the devastating situation, as well as the many individuals and organizations coming together to support our communities.”

Canadians wishing to help are encouraged to donate at www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111. Donations will be used for assisting those most impacted in the most affected areas in Nova Scotia and other Atlantic provinces with immediate and ongoing relief, recovery and resilience efforts in response to the wildfires. Additionally, donations will be used to support community preparedness and risk reduction for future all-hazard disaster events within Atlantic Canada.
