Who we are
Medavie is a health company that oversees Medavie Blue Cross and Medavie Health Services.
Together, we’re bringing Canadians better health and access to care. Medavie Health Services, Medavie Blue Cross and the Medavie Health Foundation all have unique goals. But it’s what we can do together that makes us different.View our leadership
Medavie Health Services is the largest private provider of emergency medical services in the country, managing ambulance services for the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and with additional operations in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. We operate ground and air ambulance services, telehealth medical communications, public safety delivery, mobile integrated health solutions, and provide clinical training, including a longstanding partnership with the Department of National Defence.
With over one million cardholders as the country’s leading Blue Cross Plan, Medavie Blue Cross is a not-for-profit organization that provides health, dental, travel, life, and income replacement products to small and large companies and individual customers. We also administer various government-sponsored health programs on behalf of provincial and federal governments, including Veterans Affairs Canada and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Medavie is a member of the Canadian Association of Blue Cross Plans (CABCP), collectively providing coverage to over seven million Canadians. All member plans operate independently and are governed by their own Board of Directors.
While Medavie is a private company, our shareholders are the employees, clients, and communities we serve. With more than 5,500 employees, instead of paying dividends, we channel our annual net income into investments aimed at enhancing the experience for our clients and as a social dividend to the Medavie Health Foundation.
Medavie Health Foundation is focused on developing partnerships and supporting programs in three core cause areas:
- Child and youth mental health with a focus on Mental Resiliency
- Post-traumatic stress disorder with a focus on Intervention and Recovery
- Type 2 diabetes with a focus on Prevention and Self-Management
These three areas are of particular concern to Canadians and offer significant potential to affect change for future generations. We aim to bring organizations and communities together through collaborative multi-year partnerships and to support grassroots, community-based initiatives through an annual grants program.
