Medavie HealthEd Launches First Emergency Medical Responder Program in Nova Scotia

Medavie HealthEd is pleased to announce the province’s first emergency medical responder program in Nova Scotia. The program launch follows the provincial government’s announcement earlier today regarding the addition of the emergency medical responder role to the delivery of emergency health care to Nova Scotians.

“We are pleased to provide this opportunity right here in Nova Scotia for those who are interested in a career in the health care field,” shared John Ferguson, President, Medavie HealthEd. “We are eager to welcome the first class of students through the doors this spring and look forward to providing them with the education they need to best support our health care system when they enter the workforce this coming summer.”

Emergency medical responders will play an important part in supporting the health care system and providing the right care to the right person at the right time. An emergency medical responder has the ability to provide out-of-hospital care within their scope of practice and working in collaboration with other health care providers in a wide variety of settings such as emergency care.

The program will be delivered over a 12-week period through various educational experiences, such as synchronous lectures, case studies, self-directed learning, simulation, and patient experience in the practical setting.

The program is anticipated to launch in the spring of 2024, with the first graduates entering the workforce this summer. Graduates will be eligible to apply for new emergency medical responder positions at Emergency Health Services (EHS).
